European Sovereignty-By-Design: Trellix’s Foundation for Operational Autonomy and Local Control

Securing trust through resilience and flexibility

Trellix ensures cyber resilience by integrating business continuity, crisis management, cybersecurity incident response, disaster recovery, emergency response, and risk management processes, maintaining a state of readiness to bounce back from business disruptions.

We deliver scalable solutions aligned with European values, providing the security, resilience, flexibility, and interoperability that government and enterprise customers need.

Adapting to evolving government and enterprise needs

As the geopolitical landscape shifts, over-reliance on external regions for critical technologies poses risks to national security and economic competitiveness.

Calls for greater European digital sovereignty are understandable, but they must not restrict access to best-in-class capabilities essential to security and growth.

Government and enterprise customers across Europe are already pursuing digital sovereignty through pragmatic, security-driven choices:

  • Retaining on-premise, air-gapped data centres to maximize control
  • Using private cloud infrastructure or hybrid public/private cloud infrastructure from domestic or EU providers
  • Leveraging global providers with European-located data centres with strong security assurances
  • Strengthening governance by integrating stricter resilience, security, and compliance requirements

These varied approaches reflect a shared goal: protecting critical systems while balancing security, performance, cost, and operational flexibility.

While boosting domestic European capacity is important, Europe’s digital sovereignty should be rooted in digital pragmatism – prioritising the adoption of cutting-edge technologies from global and local providers, while building European capabilities with maximum control and long-term autonomy.

Restrictive protectionist policies, including local content requirements, discriminatory procurement practices, or widespread data localisation mandates, increase costs, distort competition, and impede cross-border data flows and intelligence sharing, ultimately weakening cyber resilience.

Sovereign cloud solutions that diversify and create defence in depth

The "sovereign cloud" concept is still evolving. Many customers want to adopt sovereign cloud platforms but face limited availability of SaaS products and security solutions. Complete data sovereignty is often unattainable, as many large SaaS applications are already embedded with few viable alternatives.

By offering controls and solutions that complement SaaS cloud providers, customers gain the flexibility to diversify their security strategies. Trellix's on-premises and hybrid solutions are sovereign, cloud-ready, and capable of running across multi-cloud environments. We extend network and endpoint protection with custom support packages to any sovereign cloud platform, giving customers both choice and control.

Trellix, a launch partner for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud

This customer-led strategy means Trellix solutions will now be available on the AWS European Sovereign Cloud. This enables customers to meet stringent operational autonomy and data residency requirements within the European Union (EU).

The AWS European Sovereign Cloud is a fully featured, independently operated sovereign cloud backed by strong technical controls, sovereign assurances, and legal protections designed to meet the needs of European governments and enterprises. The AWS European Sovereign Cloud infrastructure is entirely located within the EU and operates independently from existing Regions.

Open, modular, and interoperable software environments

As one of the world’s most open trading blocs, the EU has prioritized interoperability requirements and standards, which will continue to reinforce open ecosystems and common standards. Focusing on a technology’s country of origin over its ability to enhance European open innovation risks undermining European competitiveness and security.

Open ecosystems offer alternatives to proprietary platforms, allowing innovators and organisations to choose, customise, and control technology to meet their operational and regulatory needs. Interoperability enables European governments and critical entities to seamlessly integrate, combine, and switch solutions, reducing overreliance on a limited pool of providers.

For digital sovereignty to succeed, European policymakers must also prioritise open and interoperable software environments.

Operational autonomy and local control

Trellix offers partners the flexibility to control their services and data across diverse environments, scaling to meet varied deployment needs. With over 65 point solutions, we provide comprehensive visibility and threat detection across on-premises, cloud, hybrid, air-gapped, and industrial control systems:

  • Trellix Endpoint Security solutions unifies protection across devices and endpoints, integrates with existing security stacks, and consolidates threat management from device to cloud.
  • Trellix Network Security with NDR extends visibility, detects sophisticated attacks, and enables rapid, AI-guided response.
  • Trellix Data Security protects sensitive and proprietary information shared on endpoints, networks, email, the web, and within databases. Trellix Data Security is implemented in our US West, Canada, Frankfurt, and Singapore data centers.

This breadth and flexibility – spanning endpoint, networks, clouds, and industrial systems – is critical to meeting the evolving needs of organizations pursuing sovereign cloud strategies.

Proven track record

Trellix has deep experience supporting highly regulated and security-sensitive organizations:

  • Protects over 50,000 business and government customers
  • Serves 75% of the U.S. Department of Defense agencies
  • Trusted by organizations ranging from midsize enterprises to global corporations
  • And compliant with Global and European cyber and privacy standards

By providing customers with flexible on-premises, hybrid, air-gapped, and Europe-located cutting-edge cloud hosting partnership solutions, Trellix ensures organizations—not vendors—retain final authority over critical systems, thereby strengthening digital sovereignty.
