Trellix Enhances Database Security with Expanded Support for Amazon RDS
By Laurie Robb · June 16, 2025
In today’s digital landscape, organizations are transforming how they manage their data storage. Databases are increasingly migrating to cloud platforms, with many organizations now operating in complex hybrid environments that integrate on-premises storage with cloud deployments. While this evolution offers notable advantages in flexibility and scalability, it also introduces new challenges in safeguarding critical and sensitive information.
Emerging AI trends further amplify the need to safeguard structured information in critical databases. Organizations are leveraging proprietary datasets to train artificial intelligence models, and users are increasingly sharing information with AI applications to enhance their productivity. These activities inherently increase the potential for insider risks, demanding robust measures to prevent potential data extraction, unauthorized modification, or, in the most extreme circumstances, the introduction of malicious threats such as poisoning injections.
Introducing support for Amazon RDS
Trellix Database Security is bringing industry-leading information protection to the cloud with the recent release of version 10.2, which includes support for Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) cloud databases. This enables organizations to extend Trellix's comprehensive structured data security capabilities to cloud-native database workloads, thereby ensuring consistent and robust protection across hybrid, on-premises, and cloud environments.
Trellix Database Security now provides support for AWS-managed instances of:
- MariaDB
- MySQL
- PostgreSQL
Future releases will expand protection to the remainder of AWS RDS database types.
What customers can expect from cloud-native Database Security
Customers seeking solutions for their complex, hybrid environments welcome the ability to apply enterprise-grade protection to cloud-native databases. The extension of our support to Amazon RDS is designed to deliver substantial security value to organizations utilizing these cloud services. Key features that extend protection across data environments include:
- Real-time activity monitoring: Provides immediate visibility into database activities, enabling the identification of anomalous behavior and the prompt detection of potential threats. This capability facilitates rapid response to suspicious actions, thereby minimizing potential impact.
- Pre-configured compliance policies: Simplifies audit and compliance processes through a library of policies aligned with various industry regulations and governance mandates. This helps organizations comply with necessary standards.
- Detailed event logging and incident management: Ensures the capture of comprehensive audit trails for database activities. Integrated incident management tools are designed to streamline the investigation process, enabling security teams to efficiently identify the scope of an event and implement appropriate remediation.
One customer, who already upgraded to the latest version of Trellix Database Security, shared how they benefit from its cloud-native protection.
“The integrity of our national critical infrastructure demands a security posture that seamlessly extends from our on-premise systems to our cloud deployments. Protecting our most sensitive data within AWS RDS is a key priority,” said an Operational Leader for a Latin American Ministry of Defense. “Trellix's new Database Security capabilities provide the critical tools we need to enforce policy and gain visibility where it matters most, reinforcing our confidence in Trellix as a core security partner.”
Security across hybrid architectures
This expansion underscores Trellix's commitment to delivering comprehensive data security solutions that cater to diverse infrastructures. Whether data resides on-premises, exclusively in the cloud, or within a hybrid model, Trellix Database Security offers a secure framework for discovering, monitoring, and protecting sensitive structured information.
The introduction of support for Amazon RDS for MariaDB, MySQL, and PostgreSQL represents an important advancement in our cloud security roadmap. Trellix is committed to the continued development of Trellix Database Security, with future releases planned to encompass support for additional AWS cloud databases, as well as other cloud database providers. Our objective is to provide organizations with the advanced tools necessary to secure their data, no matter where it is located.
