What Is Trellix Wise for Private Cloud and Why Did We Build It?

Since joining Trellix as Chief Product Officer, I’ve talked to a lot of customers. And one of the things I hear consistently is that the landscape has fundamentally changed for them regarding AI. We’ve seen weaponized AI get commoditized, we’ve seen frontier models from AI labs hack into companies and governments, and we know from recent research that AI is growing as an insider risk.

But when our customers look for solutions that will help them fight AI with AI, they’re not finding what they need. These are complex, very security-conscious organizations—government and defense agencies, financial institutions, energy and water utilities, hospitals, and the like—some of the most targeted sectors on the planet. What they’ve told us is they need a solution for machine-speed defense that plugs into their SOC and works with their heightened regulatory needs and risk posture.

That’s why today we’re announcing Trellix Wise for Private Cloud, in general availability on October 15. This is a transformative release for defenders who need agentic AI but who have been locked out from using it due to regulatory requirements or their operating environments. Trellix Wise for Private Cloud has been one of the most gratifying product launches I’ve worked on in my career, so I’ll walk you through what it is, why we built it, what makes it different, and what you should consider as you add AI and agentic solutions into your SOC.

What is Trellix Wise for Private Cloud?

Trellix Wise for Private Cloud is the core of an agentic Security Operations Center (SOC) program. It runs agents using telemetry from security and operational data sources to detect and respond to threats across a customer's existing infrastructure. It investigates every alert, triages them to detect incidents with a high degree of confidence, and delivers a verdict with context and actionable response guidance. Unlike other solutions, Trellix Wise for Private cloud deploys in on-premises, air-gapped, private cloud IaaS, or hybrid environments and data is never sent to a public LLM or external cloud. Trellix Wise for Private Cloud accesses data where it resides, so there is no need to shift data or add a new data lake. Trellix threat intelligence is delivered inside the boundary, so there is no need to communicate externally or query outside sources for context.

Why can't regulated organizations use most AI security tools?

Most AI security tools depend on a connection to the vendor's cloud. They send telemetry out for analysis and reach out again whenever they need more context. For highly regulated entities with strict restrictions on cloud usage and data protection, that architecture is a non-starter.

In fact, we see three major challenges that hinder the adoption of AI and agentic technology in the SOC.

  • Lack of data and AI sovereignty. The highly regulated, security-conscious organizations that use Trellix need to know where their telemetry is going. Many of them need to operate in air-gapped and disconnected environments. For these organizations, control over their data and AI is a key requirement.
  • AI decisions analysts can’t see into. Security leaders need to trust the AI and agentic solutions they bring into the SOC. There needs to be full observability and auditability, human-in-the-loop governance, and confidence scoring. If your team doesn’t trust the AI’s decision making, the solution can actually slow down your SOC by introducing additional verification steps and guesswork.
  • Unpredictable costs and consumption-based pricing. The customers I talk to are wary of surprise bills and overages from token-based models. No one wants to have to throttle AI because of cost concerns, especially when they’re in the middle of an incident. They need a solution that can scale AI without breaking their budgets.

What problem does Trellix Wise for Private Cloud solve for security operations teams?

AI-driven attacks can quickly overwhelm traditional defenses. In the Hugging Face intrusion, AI agents generated roughly 17,600 actions in five days, most of them failed attempts. At that volume and speed there is no way for humans to keep up.

Trellix Wise for Private Cloud can investigate 100% of alerts the moment they hit. It connects the dots across low-level signals so that you’re able to find the sophisticated attack hiding in the noise. It investigates the way an experienced analyst would, and hands the team a verdict with response guidance, so analysts spend their time on decisions instead of data gathering.

How is Trellix Wise for Private Cloud different?

Trellix Wise for Private Cloud stands out from other offerings in the market in three key areas:

Full data and AI sovereignty. Trellix Wise for Private Cloud runs entirely inside your boundary for AI that’s on your terms.

Decision-making your team can trust. Trellix Wise for Private Cloud provides full visibility into its reasoning, audit trails, confidence scoring and human-in-the-loop governance.

A predictable fixed-cost model. With Trellix Wise for Private Cloud, you set capacity and speed by choosing the hardware, then you run the AI as you want.

What should defenders ask when evaluating an AI solution for the SOC?

When you’re evaluating how AI and agentic solutions fit into your SOC, consider these five questions:

  • Where does my telemetry go during an investigation?

Will your data be sent to the public cloud or shifted to yet another data lake? Typical agentic solutions force you to centralize telemetry into their data lake, incurring extra costs, transformation challenges, and inserting uncertainty about where your data is going. For many of our customers, the risk of sensitive data leakage to AI systems is a barrier to AI adoption.

  • Can the AI work without my data leaving the environment?

Most agentic solutions do their AI reasoning in the public cloud, which rules them out wherever data isn't allowed to leave. Air-gapped environments, like a naval vessel or a classified network, don't connect out by design, so cloud-dependent AI was never an option. Breach investigations face the same limit. Investigation data includes credentials, logs from compromised systems, and what the attacker left behind. Sending it to a public cloud model can violate data sharing policies and guardrails at the moment teams need AI the most.

  • Can my analysts see how it reached every conclusion?

Practitioners need to be able to trust the accuracy of the AI findings in the SOC. Instead of a chatbot-style summary, your AI solution should provide a fully reconstructed event narrative with evidence, confidence meters, and technical, behavioral, and impact explanations. You want full visibility into decision making so you can feel confident granting the solution greater autonomy.

  • Can I forecast the cost?

Make sure you understand the pricing of an AI system and what it will look like when your SOC is running at full volume. What would an incident or breach do to AI consumption? What does your board expect to see in terms of cost predictability?

  • What proof exists from environments like mine?

For those customers in highly regulated industries, testimonials from early Trellix Wise for Public Cloud adopters have started to roll in. I’m thrilled to share feedback like this from our customer Jim Jenkins, CISO at Vantage West Credit Union: We operate with a lean security team against an increasingly complex threat landscape, and as a financial institution, maintaining control of our data and AI infrastructure is non-negotiable. Trellix Wise for Private Cloud amplifies our SOC team's capabilities, allowing analysts to spend less time on routine investigation and more time on the strategic work that strengthens our security posture and reduces risk.
